Despite the fact that the calling up for military service of many farmers means ihat country women have been forced in many cases to take their place in the dairy sheds the women of Otamatea can '•till find time to knit comforts for the men overseas.

Evidence of this activity was seen in a parcel of knitting that was recently forwarded to headquarters in Whangarei by the Otamatea Patriotic Committee. The parcel contained a total of 303 knitted garments made up as follows: Balaclavas 130, mittens 58, scarves 91, socks 16, pullovers 2.
