Mr Colin Mark Patrick, Conservative M.P. for Tavistock since 1931. has died at the age of 48. Privates Jim Hick, Gerard Grounds, Colin Barker and Corporal Tris Bridges, of Broadwood, were guests of honour at a dance held in the A. and P. Hall at Broadwood recently. Mr W. M. Garland, chairman of the Whangarei Export Buying and Transport Committee, went into camp with the Independent Mounted Rifles today. Mr C. P. Butler, of Whangarei, has been appointed to replace him. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Draper, of Whangarei, have received word that their son, Petty-Officer Jack Draper, has been appointed to do special duty as gunnery instructor at the Flinders Naval Base, Melbourne. He has already taken up his duties. Hon. P. K. Paikea, member of the Executive Council representing the native race, was to address the Maoris of the Mamaranui district this afternoon. This evening he will address the Maori people at Dargaville on war questions as they affect the native race.
Mickey Rooney, the film star, and Miss Ava Gardner have applied for a marriage license, says a mesage from Santa Barbara, California. The date of the wedding has not been revealed. The actor used his true name of Joe Yule. Jnr., and age, 21.
