Naval Auxiliary Patrol Service Set Up
[Special to "Northern Advocate’’] WELLINGTON. This Day. The Naval Defence Emergency Regulations, 1941, which have been gazetted, provide for the establishment of a naval auxiliary patrol service. The service is to be considered a part of the Royal New Zealand Navy, but enlistment in the patrol service will not absolve any man from liability for service with any other branch of the forces or from any liability under the National Service Emergency Regulations. Liable For Active Service The new service is to be open to men over 16 years of age who are natural-born or naturalised British subjects. Enlistment is to be for the duration of the war with Germany and up to six months afterwards. | Power is given to call out any part | of the service for the defence of the i Dominion, and while such a proclaj matiori is in force, the part of the service affected is liable to be em- | ployed on active service. | Compensation Provisions Generally, the service is to be hon- ! orary, but members called up for full- } time continuous active service will ! receive pay and allowances according {to the regulations applicable to the permanent naval forces. , No allowance will be paid for the use by members of their boats or other equipment. The Naval Board may, however, provide and require the wearing of badges, caps, or other articles of uniform, and may also provide fuel and lend armament, or other equipment. It may authorise the payment of compensation for damage to members’ boats on duty except in the ease of negligence or incompetence. The board may also provide for running repairs. If a member of the service is killed or injured in the course of duty, compensation will be paid according to a scale to be prescribed by the boat'd.
