Greatest Flow Of Medical, Surgical Supplies Ever

(British Official Wireless] (Rec. 2 p.m.) RUGBY, December 3. Mrs Churchill’s Aid to Russia Red Cross Fund, which in less than two months has nearly reached the £1,000,000 aimed at, is creating the greatest flow of exports of medical and surgical supplies that has ever taken place.

Five large consignments have been sent to Russia, and, packages are being despatched in every ship in which space can be found. It is estimated that the value of medical supplies already sent is' _ Sbbut £200,000. Russian requests are on such a large scale that it has been impossible to supply more than a fraction of the equipment out of available resources in Britain. Huge Quantities

If all these drugs and instruments had been procurable they would have been sent off at once. The latest list of requirements, on which work is now proceeding, contains 26 drugs in huge quantities, and 59 kinds of surgical instruments or the requisites in almost uncountable numbers. Britain has been searched for the articles required and the Red Cross and St. John organisations have bought all the goods they could lay their hands on. Huge orders are being placed daily and the purchase of goods is being done by a committee, of which the president of- the Royal College of Physics (Sir Charles Wilson), who was in Russia with Lord Beaverbrook’s mission, .is chairman
