Australians To Pay More For Beer, Smokes
(Rec. 3 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. Increased prices for tobacco, cigarettes and beer, to operate from today, have been announced by the Commonwealth Prices’ Commissioner (Professor Copland). Every 10 cigarettes will cost Id more and every ounce of tobacco will be Id dearer. The rise in beer prices applies only to capital cities. The cost of a pint has risen by a £d to 10|d in a public bxr and lljd in a saloon. The price of a half-pint in a saloon has been increased by £d to 7id. Bottled beer has increased by id a bottle.
