Dental Clinic Work Reviewed At Whangarei
Thirty-five schools were included in the Whangarei Country Schools’ Dental Clinic group, stated the annual report of the chairman (Mr C. Smith) presented to the annual meeting of the clinic committee at Whangarei.
The report and balance sheet covered only nine months of the year, he explained, as it had been found necessary to alter the date on which the books were usually closed. The number of children being treated was approximately 763, an increase of 82 on last year's figures. Operations for the nine months totalled 19,009, while the number of attendances was 6251.
Good Progress
Appreciation of the work of the nurses, and satisfaction at the state of the children’s teeth was expressed, and it was evident that they were receiving consistent and‘ skilled attention, Mr Smith stated.
The school accounts were in a very fair state, and the group’s finances, showed a healthy credit balance, it was reported. Mr Smith concluded by thanking ah those who had assisted the work of the group during the year, paying tribute to the work of Nurses Jonet and Northcroft.
New Waipu Sub-Base
A report covering two years’ work was presented by Nurse E. J. Jones, who stated that during the period: under review 10 new schools had been included in the group. Three of this number were being treated at the Waipu sub-base which was opened in July of last year. It was expected that four more schools would be included for treatment when the opportunity occurred.
Much time had been lost through various minor epidemics in the schools, and otherwise the work of the clinic had progressed smoothly, it was stated. Next year it was probable that patients passing into Standard 5 would be able to continue treatment. \
