Drama Of “Wuthering Heights” At Regent
A strange love story, a drama of enduring love and bitter hatred, “Wuthering Heights," opened a return season at the Regent Theatre last evening. The film was shown in Whangarei over two years ago when it made a deep impression and it is eminently worthy of the return season which is being accorded in response to requests. The twisted view of human nature, the black thoughts of revenge and hatred, the beauty of young love imperilled by jealousy, and the steadfastness of that love during heart-breaking trials and tribulations make a psychological study which through the genius of the film director and by exceptional character studies by the players, has been successfully brought to the screen. A brilliant performance is given by Laurence Olivier, as Heathcote, the man of strong passion, love and hate, while Merle Oberon wins laurels as his inspiration and despair. David Niven and Flora Robson head the supporting cast.
