Smell Nigger In Petrol Woodpile
[Per Press Association —Copyright.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Minister for Supply (Mr. Sullivan) will place before the War Cabinet the request of the South Island Motor Union for an extra petrol coupon to be made available in each of the next two months, according to a report by Mr. W. R. Carey to the Canterbury Automobile Association council last night. Mr. Chrey said that the Minister's reply had arrived last evening. He did not have the reply with him, but the Minister, as far as he could remember his words, had also “felt it is his duty to remind us that the petrol position is still very critical." Mr. F. W. Freeman said that the motor unions could be relied on to agitate on behalf of the public in what was felt to be a reasonable request. Mr. Carey said that when other areas in the Empire were able to get petrol the rationing caused one to wonder. Mr. Freeman said there was no dearth of tankers. There was no dearth of petrol, there might be a dearth of money.
