Nearest Point To Sydney
A tribute to the foresight of the Hon. Adam Hamilton in planning for the construction of the Homer tunnel and ihe Milford road was paid at the reception of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce to delegates to the conference of the Associated Chambers and their wives. The president of the Invercargill Chamber (Mr J. N. Armour) said that Mr Hamilton had been one of the prime movers in having these works put vnrier construction. Afterwards, in a short address, Mr Hamilton referred to the Homer tunnel and the Milford road. Milford, he said, was the nearest point in New Zealand to Sydney. He envisaged the time when, after the tunnel and the road were completed, tourists would travel from Auckland through New Zealand and. embark at Milford for Sydney. They would thus be able to travel through the Dominion and embark for Australia without having to turn back.
