Suggests Whangarei Queen Carnival For Patriotic Funds
Steps in connection with the conduct of a queen carnival to raise funds towards the Whangarei district quota for patriotic funds were taken at a meeting of the Whangarei District Patriotic Executive. Suggesting a queen carnival, the executive recommended to the committee, which will meet later this week, that such, a move would stimulate ' fund' raising and competition between the sub-committees, and between community committees in the inter-zone. In making its recommendations the executive pointed out that in the 1941 All Purposes Patriotic Appeal the Hamilton inter-zone of the Waikato organisation raised the whole of its quota in the first three months of the campaign. Miss Whangarei Inter-Zone Votes, it is proposed, should be calculated on the basis of the accepted percentages for the inter-zone, with the election of community committee candidates after three months and the election of Miss Whangarei Interzone from community committee candidates after a further three months. The secretary (Mr. L. O. Hall) reported that the Northland Zone executive had been invited to subscribe £57,500 to the 1942 All Pul-poses Patriotic Appe-al and, on the accepted percentage basis, the quota for the Whangarei district would be £20,125. The executive recommended acceptance of the quota and that ways and means of fund raising should be referred to the district committee for decision. Offer of Colt The secretary of the Maungatapere Dairv Company, Ltd. (Mr. G. Merwyn), advised that Mr. A. G. Rowe, ol Whatitiri, a supplier to the company, had offered a rising two-year-old colt to raffle for the purpose of raising funds for the Returned Soldiers Rehabilitation Scheme. Suggesting that the committee might be able to handle the raffle to the best advantage, the directors of the company promised any assistance within their power. It was decided that the offer should be acknowledged and that the company should be asked whether it could accept the position of licensee. Appreciation of Services Thanks and appreciation of Mr. C. P. Butler’s assistance to the women's patriotic activities sub-committee in the Allies Fair effort' was recorded, it being decided that an expression of the executive’s acknowledgment should be forwarded to Mr. Butler. It was also decided that Mr. Butler should be invited to take a seat on the district committee. The nomination of Mrs. Peat, of Waipu, as country women’s representative in the southern portion of the inter-zone area on the committee was approved. The executive also recorded its thanks and appreciation of Miss Shirley Maxwell’s patriotic effort, acknowledgment to be forwarded to Miss Maxwell and members of her dancing school.
