Canadian Officers To Retire Younger
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.)
OTTAWA, Nov. 18.
The Minister for Defence (Colonel Ralston) announced that henceforth major-generals will retire at the age of 57, brigadiers and colonels at 54, and lieutenant-colonels at 51. He said that conditions of modern war impose a degree of physical and mental exertion, resulting, with rare exceptions, in officers above certain ages being unequal to the strain. This will not be applied to officers at base units.
