Big Naval Battle Between U.S., Nazi Navies Alleged

NEW YORK, November 14. The columnists of the “New Yoik Daily Mirror,” Drew Pearson and Robert Allen. say that the United States navy early this week, had a big battle with German surface and submarine raiders off Iceland and the Norwegian approaches to the Russian Arctic ports. The columnists say the navy either sank or captured a new type of German warship—a mosquito-boat carrier —which carries a flotilla of small and speedy torpedo launches which scour the vital shipping lanes round Iceland. The carrier was guarded by U-boats which attacked the United States ships when they approached. Some U-boats, according to the report, were sunk or captured.
