Blanket Shortage In German Prison Camps
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 14. Recent official inspections of prisoners of war camps in Germany has shown a blanket shortage in a number of camps, states the War Office. The German camp authorities stated in each case that recent German High Command regulations provide only for one blanket to each prisoner, although the prisoners are allowed to keep, in addition, any personal blankets they possess. It is believed that this policy may have been duo to the effect of the Russian campaign and the number of Russian prisoners for whom provision has to be made. The Geneva Prisoners of War Convention provides that bedding conditions should bo the same as for depot troops of the detaining power. Action has already been taken to insist that British prisoners receive the same treatment as German depot troops. The British Red Cross lias sent out over 35,000 blankets, and over 10,000 quilts from Turkey also reached the camp last spring.
