Seen As Crushing Blow To Hitler

LONDON. Nov. 14. The passing of the Neutrality Revision Bill is enthusiastically welcomed in Britain. It is felt that another crushing blow has been dealt at Hitler. An immensely powerful new weapon, it is considered, has come into Britain’s hands. The “Daily Express” in a streamer headline, says: “They’re coming over.” A commentary in the paper is headed: “It’s the green-light—more food ships." The “Daily Telegraph” has a headline: “United States merchantmen to sail to war zones.” The “Daily Mail” streamer says: “United States ships can sail to Britain.’ “The Times” emphasises that United States merchantmen are now free to enter war zones hitherto barred against them. Blow To Hitler The “Daily Mail” regards the passing of the amendments as a major triumph for Mr. Roosevelt and a resounding blow to Hitler. “This is the biggest step cf all.” it says. “The United States may not be ready for full participation in the war, but she has come as near as she can without issuing a formal declaration.” The “Daily Express” states : “The United States last night voted us the use of her merchant fleet. It is the biggest help yet for the Allied cause. Roosevelt has struck Hitler the hardest and shrewdest blow he has delivered.” Clouded Issue The “Daily Telegraph” states that this all-important change has been affected by a majority which the United States Government would gladly have seen greater. It explains, however. that the measure was complicated by the entry of domestic issues. Nevertheless. it was a decision that would have the support of the American oeople. The Canadian Prime Minister (Mr. Mackenzie King) commented : "It. means an immediate increase in effective assistance for the countries resisting aggression.”
