N.Z.E.F. Appointments
[Per Press Association.—Copyrights WELLINGTON. This Day. A number of appointments in the N.Z.E.F. overseas were announced in last night’s Gazette. Lieut.-Colonel (temp. Brigadier) A. S. Wilder assumes the duties of Commandant of Maadi Camp. Lieut.-Colonel A. A. Tennent is appointed to command the Fourth Field Ambulance. An important appointment has been given to Lieut.-Colonel G. H. Clifton, M.C., N.Z.S.C., officer commanding the Divisional Engineers, Second N.Z.E.F. He has been promoted Colonel and seconded to the British Army as chief engineer to the 30th Corps. He will act in an advisory capacity to the corps commander. Well-known Aucklander Colonel Clifton is well-known in Auckland, where he was last stationed shortly after the war broke out as commandant of the Northern Military District School of Instruction at Narrow Neck. He was born in Napier. The appointment of Lieut.-Colonel F. C. Soar, E.D., as commandant of Ngaruawahia Camp, is announced in the current Gazette. Lieut. Colonel Soar was, until recently, officer commanding the First Field Regiment, N.Z. Artillery. It is also announced in the Gazette that Lieut.-Colonel L. H. Jardine, D. 5.0., M.C., of New Plymouth, formerly officer commanding the Ist Battalion, Taranaki Regiment, has been appointed Commandant of the Army School of Instruction, Trentham.
