New Member Takes Seat In Bay Power Board
[Special to “Northern Advocate”l KAIKOHE, This Day. A resolution that Sincerest sympathy be conveyed to Mr. and Mrs. J. T. B. Taafl'e, of Kaitaia. in the tragic loss of their youngest daughter was carried at the monthly meeting of the Bay of Islands Electric Power Board held at Kaikohe. There were present: Messrs. A. E. Bisset (chairman), E. F. Bradley, N. A. Ellery, H. H. Mountain, L. Peace and a new member, Mr. W. J. Stead. Mr. Stead, of Waiharara, who has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. H. H. Thompson was welcomed by the chairman and replied briefly. A matter of importance to which the attention of parents" is to be drawn is the extreme danger to life arising out of kite-flying by children near power lines. Signed by settlers of Awarua and Gammon’s Road, a petition asking that that area be reticulated was received. A canvass is to be commenced as soon as possible. Obscene Language Using obscene language in Commerce Street, Kaitaia, cost Walter Thomas, a Maori, £5 when he appeared in the Kaitaia Police Court on Thursday. In outlining the case for ihe police, Sergeant W. H. Simistxr fold the Magistrate (Mr. Raymond Ferner) that a police constable had heard accused use the language complained of and that women and children were within hearing. Thomas had expressed sorrow to the constable, and said he had forgotten himself. Thomas was also ordered to pay 10/- costs.
