Rev. P. F. Lanyon, general secretary of the Baptist Union, arrived in Whangarei yesterday and with Mrs Lanyon is a guest of the Rev. and Mrs J. D. Jensen. Mr Lanyon is an Australian and for some years was a missionary in India. » * • * Confirming private advice, Mr. A. Hilton, of James’ Hotel, Whangarei, has received notification that his son. Corporal George Albert Hilton, is a prisoner of war in Stalag VIII., Germany. The official cable also announces the promotion of the soldier to corporal. >:• * * The death has occurred of Mrs. Susan Cunningham Wansbone, aged 74, wife of the first Presbyterian Church minister in Dargaville. Mrs. Wansbone spent a lifetime of service to the church and the community. For 30 years she was superintendent of St. Andrew’s Sunday School. Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter.
