NEW CURE MAY REVOLUTIONISE WOUND TREATMENT

LONDON, October 24. Scientists in the Hebrew University Cancer Research Laboratory at Jerusalem are working on a discovery which may revolutionise the treatment of wounds —an extract of adult animal tissue which has given sensational results in tens of experimental cases in local and military hospitals, says the Associates Press correspondent. An American, Mrs. Ruth Hoffman, is collaborating with Dr. Leonid Doljansky. Dr. Doijansky found that an extract of adult animal tissue showed an influence on cell proliferation many times greater than that of embryonic tissue (with which Dr. Alexis Carrel experimented), and therefore saw possibilities in the use of the extract for the treatment of wounds. Wounds that refuse to heal under ordinary treatment responded remarkably to the application of this extract. For instance, a soldier who had failed to benefit from one year’s ordinary treatment and faced the amputation of a leg, completely recovered the use of the leg after the new treatment.
