Purchase Of This Season’s Meat

The whole of the arrangements foi the purchase of meat for the 1941-2 season are at present being discussed by the Government with the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board and the freezing industry, and an announcement will be made as early as possible, said the Minister for Marketing (Mr Barclay), replying, in the House of Representatives, to an ur gent question by Mr W. J. Poison (Oppn., Stratford), who asked if there was to be any departure from the Government’s last season arrangement to purchase meat for the coming season. Mr Poison also asked, if old ewes were to be purchased, if there would be any restrictions on killing tv/otooth wethers or other classes of sheep, and if a proportion of the new season’s kill was to be processed other than by freezing, and by whom the .loss would be borne? The Minister said that ewe mutton purchased during the season just ended had either already been shipped or was now in process of being shipped to Britain, with the exception of a quantity of approximately 5000 tons which was killed since last May, and which was now being canned. ______
