Believed Torpedoing Of French Liner
[British Official Wireless] (Rec. 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 7. No confirmation is available in London of a Vichy report that the French liner Theophile Gautier was torpedoed and sunk in the Eastern Mediterranean. The view i's expressed here that if the facts are as reported from Vichy, the responsibility clearly rests with the French authorities since the vessel was sailing in waters formally notified as dangerous and was in an enemy convoy.
