Question Of Vesting Anzac Park Domain

Advice that there was no statutory authority under which a public domain might be actually vested in a local body was contained in a letter to the Whangarei Borough Council at its monthly meeting last evening from the Under Secretary, Department of Lands and Survey, Wellington. The letter referred to the Anzac Park Domain, The council having applied to have the domain vested in it as a reserve. It was considered, however, that the position might be met by the council being appointed as a domain board to control the area, many domains in various parts of the Dominion being administered satisfactorily in this manner by local bodies. Under section 59 of the Public Reserves, Domains and National Parks Act, 1928, it was stated, where a local authority was the domain board, it might apply any part of its ordinary funds towards the management, improvement and maintenance of. the domain. If the council were appointed as the board it would have full control over the area subject to the provisions of the Act. The question was referred to the parks committee.
