NEW YORK, October 6. Following the sinking of the American tanker I. C. White off the coast of Brazil on September 27, the Maritime Commission announces that 20 of the 125 merchant ships supplying Britain have been armed, and that guns will be mounted on the remainder shortly. The Secretary for State (Mr. Cordell Hull) has simultaneously warned the Nazis that, henceforth, the United States will regard the right of selfdefence as transcending international law.
