The selection is announced of Mr. W. B. Fitchett, of W. B. Fitchett, Ltd., advertising specialists, as the National Party candidate for Hutt to oppose the Minister for Finance (Mr. Nash). At the recent quarterly meeting of the Paparca Methodist Circuit a unanimous invitation was tendered to the Rev. W. G. Peate to labour a fourth year in the district. In expressing his thanks, Mr. Peate said he also sincerely appreciated the help and co-operation of the people. The death occurred at Carterton late on Saturday of Mrs. Adelaide Blackall McKenzie, ' wife of Mr. Edward McKenzie, sole New Zealand Rugby selector. She was one of the bestknown women in the Rugby world, and her death will cause sorrow throughout the Dominion. She suffered a stroke a week ago and failed to rally. Archdeacon H. T. Steele, vicar of Whangarei parish, Rev. J. Guinness and Synodsmen A. Marsden Woods (who is also chancellor of the Diocese), and J. W. Otway (Whangarei Parish), are attending the annual meeting of the Synod which opened at St. Mary’s Cathedral last night. They were accompanied on the trip by the Rev. Harold Steele, of Kaikohe. Mr. G. P. Finlay, chairman of the new No. 1A Armed Forces Appeal Board, arrived in Whangarei yesterday and with other members of the board, Messrs N. Horrobin and A. J. Magee, of Whangarei, went today to Maungaturoto where a sitting was held. The board will sit in Whangarei tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. Mr. Finlay is a well-known solicitor who, after commencing practice in Hamilton, was in partnership with Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for Waitomo, at Te Kuiti. Since then he has been practising in Auckland.
