The Allies Fair
HEARTY congratulations have been deservedly extended to all concerned in the promotion and development of the Allies Fair held in the town hall last week to raise funds for the Whangarei Women’s Patriotic. Sub-Committee. The most sanguine anticipations of the promoters were surpassed, the fair showing a profit of over £IOO0 —£1009/14/3 to be precise. This is truly a magnificent result which reflects great credit upon all responsible for the effort and upon the people of town and district who gave it their practical support. The Women’s Patriotic Sub-Committee were exceedingly fortunate when they secured the services of Mr. Peter Butler as honorary organiser of the fair. In this gentleman they had one whose organising ability had long since been amply demonstrated, for it is, largely due to him that the Winter Show has achieved the popularity and success it enjoys. Mr. Butler was wholeheartedly supported by the members of the Women’s Patriotic Sub-Committee, who secured the co-operation of a splendid band of helpers. The result was the development, along sound lines, of a well thought out plan of campaign. _ This ensured the success of the fair, which was the most ambitious venture of its kind staged in Northland. The fair provided three days of carnival, and there is little doubt that those who attended the town hall, or took part in associated money-making enterprises, thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of spending in a good cause. And they spent with freedom and pleasure which were a striking reflex of the spirit stirred by the preliminary publicity employed. The Allies Fair was a remarkable success from every point of view, and it will be a landmark of Whangarei’s war assistance campaign.
