SYDNEY, October 6. Dashing Cavalier confounded his critics today by winning the Metropolitan Handicap in 2.41 V 2 , time which beat the Australian and New Zealand record by a quarter of a second. He certainly was Lucrative’s master in onp of the toughest finishes in the history of the race, but Dashing Cavalier’s victory should have been no surprise to anyone after his great finish behind Beau Vite in the Colin Steohen Stakes on Saturday. The New Zealand mare Duvach gave her best display in the Shorts Handicap, which included four leading Sydney sprinters. Duvach ran generouslj' throughout behind Winnipeg, who had an advantage with D. Munro in the saddle. The Shorts Handicap, of £600: six furlongs.—Winnipeg, 8.9. 1; Duvach (N.Z.), 8.1, 2: Kingsdale, 7.13, 3. Seven started. Two lengths; length and a half. Time, 1.11.
