Dutch Royalty's Property Confiscated

(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 16. The German Commissioner for Security in the Netherlands is confiscating all property belonging to the Dutch Royal Family under a decree providing for the confiscation of the property of persons fostering antiGerman sentiments Announcing this, the German News Agency said that the former Queen Wilhelmina from afar heaps insults on the head of the Reich and the German, army, while exhorting the Netherlands to deeds of violence against occupation officials. 1000 Norwegians Arrested The British United Press correspondent at Stockholm learns reliably that a thousand Norwegian municipal officers and several thousand others have been arrested under the recent emergency orders. A Swiss report says that those recently arrested in Oslo include the leading members of the editorial staff of the “Aftenposten," the “Morgenbladet” and the “Dagbladqi,” who were sent to a concentration camp. Reprisals The Paris radio announced that the Germans have shot another 10 French hostages of ages ranging from 19 to 62 as a reprisal for acts of aggression on September 9, 10 and 11. A Brussels message says that the military governor of Northern France and Belgium has ordered five Communist hostages to be shot as a reprisal for attempts to kill German soldiers. Bucharest Fire Rumania provides the highlights in tonight’s news of the “subterranean” war against the Germans. Despatches from Bucharest say that sabotage is suspected as the cause of a big fire in a chemical factory in the suburbs of Bucharest. It is also stated that an organisation of young men named “Troika” has been discovered in Bessarabia. Its objects include the destruction of bridges and communications behind the front lines. The Moscow radio has quoted neutral military authorities for reports that Germany is most dissatisfied with the performance of the Rumanian army. The radio added that assassination of Rumanian officers by their men had become frequent and that desertions had assumed large proportions. Rumanian deserters were taking arms and ammunition to the Russians. Troops Attack Germans Rumanian deserters are believed to have been responsible for recent attacks on small German detachments and the Germans have established special storm troop detachments to guard each Rumanian regiment. Radio Paris has complained that numerous State and local authority employees are de Gaullists and are openly criticising the Government. The Madrid, correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says that four committees of the Vichy Council of State have separately petitioned Petain regarding the illegality of special courts. Mr. Barthelmy, as President of the Council, refused to convey the petitions, but senior members of the council personally presented them to Petain. Oslo Reign of Terror A Norwegian who has escaped to Sweden, referring to disturbances di.Tin'g the last few days, says a reign of terror began last Wednesday when German soldiers in huge prison lorries spread over Oslo. They woke the inhabitants and arrested 1000 Norwegians. All the prisons in Oslo are crammed and Norway is rapidly becoming one great prison. The Czechs and Slovaks have begun a boycott of newspapers throughout the protectorate owing to the contemptuous references to dead Czech leaders and criticisms of Russia and America. A clandestine newspaper circulating in Belgium, called “Free Speech,” protests against the conscription of Belgians for work in the worst bombed areas. The paper says that 3112 Belgians have been killed in Royal Air Force raids on Germany.
