Had £59 Worth Of R.A.F. Meat For £l2/10/-
Reference to “terrible laxity” at an aerodrome, which resulted in meat being obtained by people outside the Service, was made by a prosecuting counsel in a London court. Alfred John Noel Fitt (35), butcher’s manager, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment for receiving meat belonging to the Air Council. Clifford Adcock (35), butcher's roundsman, was bound over for two years. Fitt appeared on seven counts, and it was alleged that he received 3201 b of beef on one occasion and 4701 b on another. He pleaded guilty and the other five counts were not proceeded with. Adcock denied receiving, but admitted receiving a butcher’s knife belonging to the Air Council. Mr Horner, prosecuting, said that Fitt paid £l2/10 - for the two quantities of meat which were worth £59 5/-. He invested his profits in Savings Certificates. The judge was told that one of the airmen concerned had been sentenced by an R.A.F. tribunal, and that the others had also been dealt with.
