Pleading guilty to a charge of attempting to steal eight gallons of benzine, the property of the Bay of Islands Dairy Cm., Ltd.. Moerewa, Frederick Rameka ar.d Marsden Neilson appeared before Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., at a sitting of the Kawakawa Police Court. Rameka was sentenced to one month’s hard labour and Neilson was fined £6. Charged with theft of £4/12/- in money, James Waetford was .sentenced to one month’s hard labour. For stealing an overcoat valued at £3/10/-. Wiri Mohi, who pleaded guilty was placed on probation for a period of two years. A fine of 10/-. with 14/- costs. was imposed on Marsden Neilson for failing to carry a warrant of fitness on his car. Assault at Moerewa Frederick Rameka pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting Maurice Edward Martin at Moerewa. He was sentenced to 14 days’ hard labour, sentence to be cumulative with previous sentence. On a charge of driving a car without a driver's license he was convicted and discharged. A charge of stealing 127 ft. of timber, valued at £l/18/1, was preferred against Ruki Brown. He pleac)ed guilty and was convicted and placed on probation for two years, a special condition being that Brown leave Opahi and accept employment given by the Probation Officer, and chat he does not return to Opahi without the written consent of the Probation Officer.
A sentence of one month’s hard labour was imposed on Rangi Keri, who pleaded guilty to receiving from Warn Kopa tools valued at 14/-, the property of the New Zealand Railways, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Elvert Lynden Phillips was fined £lO and costs for failing to make application for enrolment in the National Reserve. For killing native or imported panic without a license, Pater George Takimoana was fined £5 with 18/- costs. William Edward Alexander was fined £2 with costs, amounting to £3/14/0 for allowing cattle to wander at large on the Puketotara road, Okaihau. The magistrate warned him that a more serious fine would be imposed for a further breach.

Mr Parry stated that up to August 24 last sales were as follows: —“Making New Zealand,” 245,954; “Dictionary of New Zealand Biography,” 350; Centennial surveys, 9543. The cash received totalled £10,047/13/6.
