■‘Now that things are looking up j again,” said the reporter, “and money’s easier, I suppose business with you is I booming?” “Oh, we can’t growl,” replied the tobacconist, “but our lines are always wanted. When things are bad chaps smoke because it bucks them up; when things are good they smoke because they are good. Get me?” “About how -many brands are there?” queried the scribe. “Ask me another,” said the tobacconist. “Hundreds, they say.” “Of course.” continued the reporter, “the imported lines have the biggest sale?” “Formerly they had,” said the tobacconist, “but most smokers prefer ‘toasted’ now. It's certainly the purest tobacco I know of, to say nothing of flavour arid aroma Safe as houses, too. The toasting gets the nicotine out of it. Imitations? I : should smile! But as long as you slick i to the five genuine toasted prands, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish, Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Kiverhead Gold and Desert Gold, you can’t go ' wrong.” The scribe nodded, v/aved, and hurried off. He’d got an “item”! 8.P.72
