Patriotic Dance

Last week a most successful dance was held in the Criterion Theatre under the aegis of the Hikurangi Patriotic Committee. Led by Mr. McGruer. a band of local musicians provided lively dance numbers. There was a sixpenny Monte Carlo waltz, and this attracted big entries, the winning pair being Miss D. Latham and Mr. H. Stringfellow. A dainty supper was served, the various viands provided being donated by a generous section of local business folk. Mr. W. Thomas made a capable M.C. The chairman of the patriotic committee (Mr. D. H. Cochrane), in announcing the net proceeds, amounting to £5/12/5, specially thanked the musicians for the excellent dance music supplied gratis for all patriotic dances.
