Two Messerschmitts To One Pilot In 30 Seconds

(Rec. 1 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 4. A South African Spitfire pilot shot down two Messerschmitt 109 s within half a minute over the channel today. He landed at his base only 20 minutes after he had taken off on patrol. He saw three Messerschmitts below, and dived and fired on one of them. Within a second the enuemy belched black smoke and just went to pieces. Fragments fell towards the sea and the pilot swung round to attack the others but the leader half rolled and dived away into the haze. The third Messerschmitt dived as though to try and attack.

The South African opened fire as he turned towards him and straight away the Messerschmitt's tail flew cfi'. The German flicked over and started spinning down out of control. The South African followed him down (o about 3000 ft. but as it was obvious that the German could do nothing to save himself he decided to come home.
