Comrades Shielded Parachuting Bader

LONDON. Sept. 4. When the legless pilot, Wing-Com-mander D. R. Bader, bailed out over France recently Spitfires of his squadron circled round him providing r. protective, coil until he was seen to land, says the “Daily Express”. Wing-Commander Bader was forced to bail out at 20,000 ft., from which height it takes five minutes to reach the ground. This period was packed with danger, because he was a helpless figure dangling at the end of his parachute and a tempting target for an enemy pilot. His colleagues decided that he must be guarded, so the second in command gave the order, “See him safely to the ground. Nothing else matters.”
