Unusual Western, Crime Thrills At Plaza

A Western film of unusual type, especially in the fact that it features stars nol usually seen in outdoor films, and an exciting story of police investigation of gang crime, comprise the two films which fill the main portion of the new programme opening at the Plaza Theatre last evening. The Western film, “Trail of the Vigilantes,” stars Franchot Tone with Warren William, Brod Crawford. Andy Devine, Mischa Auer, Porter Hall and Peggy Moran in support.' Tone is cast as an under-cover agent investigating a murder, and the trail he follows leads through cowboy battles and stage-coach hold-ups. the excitement only being equalled with the comedy relief with which the film abounds. The second film is “Tear Gas Squad, the story of a night-club singer (Dennis Morgan) who ioins the police force to win a girl (Gloria Dickson) from her family of policemen and becomes involved in warfare between law and gangdom. From a humorous start, as the girl endeavours to lower his ego, through various stages of exciting adventure as the ex-singer gets on the trail the racketeers who have shot his brother xor revenge, the film goes to a smashing climax.
