Concert Platoon Visits Men In Camp
Continuing with • the fortnightly entertainments which Whangarei amateurs are providing for men in camp at Kensington Park, Corporal J. C. Wellby’s platoon of entertainers visited the camp on Wednesday evening and presented a first-class programme. The provision of front curtains, the absence of which had been something of a handicap for concert parties in the past, was of considerable help in presenting the programme, which proved highly successful with the capacity audience. Comedy, music and dancing were the well-balanced ingredients of the programme and every item was given a boisterous welcome. Comedy numbers by Aithur Manson, especially his interpretation oi' a "Bridesmaid.” the pianoaccordion solos of W. E. Newberry and the dancing of the ballet from the- Warrington School of Dancing, Jean Warne Myrtle Purves, Lorna Scott, Mary Grainger, Dolly Howie, Nancy Howie, Pat Davies, Marie Thomson and Zena Mills, who also provided choruses, were particular favourites with the troops. At the conclusion of the concert the camp commandant (Major A. A. McLauchlan) thanked the company for their eiforts and expressed the appreciation ol the officers and men. The company was then entertained in the officers’ mess. The programme was as follows: Opening number, Chorus and Welsh Ballet; song, "Up From Somerset,” Cpl. J. C.
