The matter will certainly be raised in the House of Commons as an urgent public issue when Parliament reassembles. The newspaper adds that the Minister made the statement to which the president of the Amalgamated Engineering Union (Mr. Jack Tanner) referred in a speech at Manchester. Mr. Tanner alleged that the Minister had expressed the hope that Germany and Russia might exterminate each other so as to leave Britain the dominant Power in Europe. Regret Expressed Mr. Tanner said that the statement was made in a speech at Manchester and the meeting was presided over by Sir Ernest Simon and attended by two officials of the Amalgamated Engineering Union. One of these officials, Mr. Blackburn, subsequently sent a letter to Sir Ernest Simon about the Minister’s statement.
