Rugby Season Ends The Rugby season in Whangarei officially ends on Saturday, although no games will be played. The closing ceremony will be carried out by the referees at their annual social function on Saturday evening. 9 »' » * Committed For Sentence Pleading guilty in the Whangarei Court this morning to four charges of indecent assault, two in respect of each of two females, Lawrence Shadbolt, 47, farm manager, of Marohemo was committed to the Auckland Supreme Court for sentence by Messrs W. Jones and J. G. Draper, J.P.s. Detective J. B. Finlay prosecuted. * * * * Remand On Serious Charge On a charge of indecent assault on a male, Phillip Alexander Gentil, 43. was remanded in custody to appear at Huntly next Thursday by Messrs W. Jones and J. G. draper, J.ps. at the Whangarei Court this morning on the applicataion of Detective J. B. Finlay. * •* * * Racing At Kawakawa The patriotic race meeting to be held
at Kawakawa has been fixed for November 22, according to advice received from that centre. For many years the Kawakawa Racing Club held meetings there and for the patriotic race meeting the old course, which is now being used for grazing, will be utilised. « * * * Kennel Club’s Show The Northland Kennel Club’s show opens at the Town Hall tomorrow, Friday, and over 90 dogs have been entered in the various sections. Of these entries, 40 are coming from Auckland. The judge will be the president of the New Zealand Kennel Club (Mr Norman Wade, of Auckland), who is the best-known of this country’s judges, having officiated at two Royal Shows at Sydney. All the proceeds from the show are being donated to patriotic funds. * * * * Medical Board Sittings During the coming week military medical board sittings will sit at various Northland centres for the purpose of examining reservists for both overseas and territorial service. On Monday, September 8. a board will sit at Warkworth, when 20 men have been notified to parade. Wellsford will be visited on Tuesday for the examination of 23 men, while on Wednesday boards will sit at both Kawakawa for 39 men and Kaitain for 30 men. Dargaville will be visited on Thursday for the examination of 65 men. On Wednesday, September 17, a board will sit at Whangarei, when 50 men have been ordered to parade.
