Beef, Sheep Values Ease At Westfield

(Special to ‘‘Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Westfield fat stock sale yesterday beef values eased. Although competition was steady for a large entry of sheep, the prices of ewes fell from £l/10/- to £l/6/6. Rates for wethers were on a par with last week’s. The first shorn sheep of the season made their appearance, and two truck loads of ewes brought 17/-. The top price for prime lambs eased threepence to £l/15/-. and unfinished sorts brought 17/- against £l. Runners made to £ll/1/-, compared with £lO/17/-. The top price for vealers was £B/10/-, a decline of 9/-. Baconer pigs met a slack inquiry, and the best price of £4/5/- was 27lower than last week's. Porkers remained steady at £3/5/-, and slips and stores sold at late rates. Weaners were 1/- cheaper. Top Price £l6/5/There was an average yarding of steers. Although the demand was steady, prices fell slightly from last week’s high level. Top price was £l6/5/-. The entry of cows and heifers was smaller than usual. Competition was steady, but values dropped slightly. Top price was £l3. Calves were yarded in small numbers. Bidding was very keen for all classes and values showed a further improvement. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., report:— Extra choice ox sold to 417- per 1001 b.; choice and prime ox, 38/- to 40/-; ordinary and plain, 34/- to 3G/-: prime young cow and heifer beef, 33/- to 37/-; extra choice and prime, 30/- to 32/-; ordinary ccw beef, 25/- to 29/-; extra heavy prime steers, £ls to £l6/5/-; heavy, £l4 to £l4/15/-; lighter, £l3/5/- to £l3/15/-: light, £ll/10/- to £l2/10/-; small and unfinished steers, £9/10/- to £10; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO Ito £l3; heavy prime cows and heifers, £B/10/- to £9/10/-; lighter, £7/10/- to £8; other kiilable cows, £5/10/- to £6/10/-.
