Vatican Service To N.Z. War Prisoners
[Per Press Association.—Copyright] WELLINGTON, This Day. When a cablegram announcing the Vatican’s proposal to supply information about Anzac prisoners of war was referred to Archbishop O’Shea •yesterday, he said he was eager to make it possible for the next-of-kin cf New Zealand soldiers reported missing in recent campaigns in the Mediterranean area to profit by the ;.erviee offered. He said that if the next-of-kin in New Zealand would forward the names and addresses of missing soldiers to him or Monsignor Mcßae, he ■would send them on to Dr. Panico in Sydney for transmission to Rome. Archbishop O’Shea said that no doubt there were hundreds of people very anxious about their loved ones who were reported missing, • and it seemed that this opened a way for clearing up doubts as to their fate. It might even lead to a means being found of sending messages to prisoners of war and receiving replies from them.
