Beer Drinker Dogged By Unlucky Thirteen
fSpecial to ‘‘Northern Advocate”! TE AROHA, This Day
Lancelot Goodger, a horse-breaker, who appeared in the Te Aroha Magistrate’s Court charged with a breach o.f his probation order experienced a full run of the unlucky thirteen. He was caught on the 13th day of the month, on a Friday, and had 33 bottles of beer in his possession. Constable Carson said Goodger v/as found in Rollerston Street, drinking beer with a friend. He had one bottle in his hand, another under his coat, and 11 more hidden in a clump of bushes.
Accused said he had taken out the prohibition order himself. He said he expected to be called into camp next month. “I hope to make a better soldier than a law breaker,” he declared.
“I think you would be a better lav/ breaker.” commented Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., in imposing a fine of £1 and costs.
