Pope Organises Assistance For N.Z. Prisoners
SYDNEY, June 22.
News of Australian and New Zealand prisoners of war in Italy has been broadcast from the Vatican City radio ftation to the Apostolic Delegate' in Sydney. It is hoped that weekly transmissions will be sent from the Vatican giving details of the whereabouts and health of the Anzac prisoners of . war. The Apostolic Delegate to Australia (Archbishop Panico), said the Pope had organised a service of assistance for prisoners of war, missing persons and civil internees. The Holy See not only inquired about soldiers or internees, but also sent personal messages for them. Archbishop Panico requested that families who asked about next of kin should indicate whether the men had been reported missing in Libya, Greece, Crete or elsewhere. Assistance was granted to soldiers without religious distinction.
