[Special to “Northern Advocate”! GREYMOUTH, This Day The kitchen and diningrom of the Empire Hotel, Waiuta, exploded at about 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Both rooms were wrecked, and several people were hurt. The explosion is thought to have been due to the freezing of the waterpipes, exceptionally heavy frosts having been experienced of late. When the explosion occurred, Mrs J. J. Ryan, wife of the proprietor, was standing in front of the stove, and she was severely burned about the body and is suffering from shock. She was taken to the Reefton Hospital. Mr H. Reich received a severe cut on the head. Mr Ryan, Miss D. Willis, a waitress, and Mr J. Fisher suffered minor injuries to the face and head. Messrs L. Wilson and T. Cameron suffered slightly from shock. The cylinder was blown 50 yards away by the force of the explosion.
