Fourth Daylight Sweep Over North France
LONDON, June 20,
British bombers with fighter escorts yesterday made their fourth daylight sweep on northern France. Among the objectives were docks at Le Havre, where hits were scored on wharves and oil tanks. An enemy supply ship was hit off the French coast.
Little opposition was encountered from enemy fighters, one of which was destroyed. No British planes were lost.
For the ninth night in succession British planes bombed western Germany on Thursday night. Cologne and Dusseldorf were among the objectives. Five Submarines Sunk
The official Russian newspaper “Red Star” states that in a recent British raid on Hamburg five German submarines anchored in the port and a shipyard were destroyed. In the Ruhr there has been a considerable decrease in production at the Krupp works. There was little enemy air activity over Britain last night. Bombs were dropped at a few widely separated points, A small number of casualties were reported and some damage was done. One raider was destroyed. An Air Ministry communique states that the Bomber Command attacked industrial targets at Cologne and Dusseldorf last night. Two of our machines are missing.
