Overseas Trade Sank In April
(Special to ‘‘Northern Advocate”] WELLINGTON, This Day Exports during April were valued at £5,561,000, or £2,852,000 less than in the corresponding month last year, according to the return of overseas trade for the month, a summary of which was issued by the Customs Department in Wellington today. April imports were down by £505,000 to £3,859,000. The excess oi exports was £1,702,000, against £4,059,000 in that month in 1940. I • For the four months ended April, imports at £12,383,000, are the lowest for five years, as also are exports, at £24,700,000. Year’s Figures Well Up In April, 1937, exports totalled £8,402,000, while imports for the same month in the same year totalled £4,342,000. Exports for the first 10 months ol the production year, which opens in July, were valued at £2,459,000 more than those for the same period last, season. The total £53,809,000 is the highest for the past five seasons. imports for the 10 months were valued at £36,966,000, an increase of £1,344,000 over the corresponding period last year. The favourable commodity balance of £16,843,000 is the greatest for the past five seasons.
