Higher Wheat Production In N.Z.
The official figures of export killings at the Dominion’s freezing works from October 1, 1940, till May 17, 1941, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, show that lamb killings have reached a total of 10,347,789 or 073,084 carcases above that of the previous season. Ewe killings now show a decrease oi 307,444 carcases, compared with the previous season, the current total beine 1,452,118. Wethers have declined b> 601,970, the killings this season totalling 571,849. Details of lamb and mutton production to May 17, with the corresponding figures for the previous season (to May 18) in parentheses are as follows: North South Island Island Wether mutton (C/cs.) — 489,044 (1,086,872) 82,805 (146,947) Ewe mutton (C/cs.) — 868,738 (1,160,307) 583,380 (599,255) Lamb (C/cs.) — 5,450,718 (5,090,950) 4,897,071 (4,583,755) Frozen beef production has reached 506,356 quarters, compared with 416,958. More Porkers Porker killings (173,981 in the North Island, and 6004 in the South), total 179,985, showing an increase of 106,707 carcases. Baconer killings were as follows: North Island. 291,335 (compared with 301,704); South Island, 10,061 (11,122). a decrease this season of 11,430 carcases. Killings of choppers total 10,155, being a decrease of 407. Killings of other classes of meat expressed in 6Clb freight carcases were as follows, with the figures for the previous season to approximately the same date, shown in parentheses: Boneless beef .. .. 405,842 (573,495) Boneless bobby veal .. 86,582 (66,893) Sundries .. .. 368,156 (367,444)
