London 16th Night Without A Raid
LONDON. May 27. Enemy air activity over Britain in the past 24 hours has been very slight. One German bomber was shot down into the. sea off the coast. A few bombs were dropped during the night in the south and in east Anglia. Slight damage was caused, but no one has been reported injured. It was London’s sixteenth night without a raid. The Select Committee on National Expenditure states in a report that plans are in -progress for the provision of deep shelters for about 90,000 additional people, and 18 put of 20 shafts have been begun. It is hoped that the programme will be completed by next winter. The Archbishop of Canterbury has revealed that five heavy bombs have fallen on Lambeth Palace, in addition to incendiaries. The palace, which has been specially associated with church and State for eight centuries, is a mere shell. It is revealed that bomb damage to Manchester University will cost £30,000 to repair.
