Power Board Tributes To Mr. A. J. McKay

Tributes to the work of Mr. A. J. McKay while a member of the North Auckland Electric Power Board were paid by members of the board at the monthly meeting in Dargaville yesterday when it was decided unanimously to send him a letter of sympathy in his illness. , Moving that the letter should be sent, Mr. W. Collins said that Mr. McKay was a man of few words but sound advice.

“I make no secret of the fact that I am sorry that Mr. McKay has not been returned to the board,” said Mr. F. Elliott in seconding the motion. Information had been given him by Mr. McKay’s son that he was making progress in his illness, said Mr. J. A. S. Mac Kay. He hoped that he would soon be fully recovered. For G 6 or 67 years he and Mr. McKay had been friends and associates.

“Real McKay” As the member who had taken Mr. McKay.’s place on the board, Mr. A. A. Mac Kay said that they had been friends in private life since he was a boy and he hoped that in the future they would also be friends in public life.

Mr. J. N. McCarroll: He might well be described as ‘the real McKay.’ ' Other members, the engineer (Mr. T. R. Overton) and the secretary (Mr. S. P. Day) also paid tribute to Mr. McKay’s services.

Tributes were also paid to' Mr. W. P. Begg and Mr. R. Nesbitt, former members, and it was decided to send them letters of appreciation. The chairman (Mr. J. A. McLean) welcomed Messrs. A. A. Mac Kay, D. H. Cochrane and W. Montgomery, the new members on the board, each replying. Mr. Montgomery said that he hoped that the reticulation would be extended throughout the north, bringing it into full fertility so that it would take its place with other parts of the Dominion.
