Army, Territorials Distinctions Not Encouraged

[Special to “Northern Advocate”! CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “The authorities are doig their utmost to break down any distinction between Territorials and the men for overseas,” said Captain C. Rattray at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union when the suggestion was made that only Expeditionary Force men should be admitted free to Rugby matches. He said Burnham was the only camp in New Zealand where both Territorials and Expeditionary Force men were in training and the arrangements had worked very satisfactorily. “Now that both are 1 ballotees,’ it would be unfortunate to make distinctions.” he said.

The question was raised by Mr W. C. Dailey, who said that soon the Home Guard would be in uniform and that eventually very few people would be eligible to pay the admission charges. j Doincj Their Bit. The president (Mr E. V. Phillips) said the union had decided to admit all men cf the services in uniform and no distinctions could be made. Another member remarked that many members of the Air Force ground staff who would not be going overseas, were earning tetter wages than in civil life.

Mr J. Clarke: They are doing their bit, nevertheless.

Members of the National Military Reserve and the Home Guard were forbidden to use their uniforms to get into sports meetings and entertainments free, said Mr R. Blazy.
