Maori Carried Parcel Of Liquor

Picked up drunk by the police in Cameron Street, Whangarei, yesterday. James Cherrington, a Maori of Otiria, was found to have a parcel containing four bottles of beer in his possession. This led to his appearance in the Whangarei Court this morning, where he was charged with assisting or counselling some person unknown in the commission of an offence, the unlawful supply of liquor to a native. After Sergeant W. Grainger had explained the facts to the court, the magistrate, Mr. Raymond Ferner, convicted Cherrington and fined him £3 and costs 10/-.
