Anglo-American Conference In Philippines
(Rec. 2 p.m.) MANILA. April 2. Air Chief Marshal Sir H. R. BrookePopham. commanding the British Forces in the Far East, who arrived by a British flying-boat, called on the American Naval Commander (Admiral Hart) for a series of conferences, to which naval .circles attach extreme importance in view of the increasing British and American collaboration in the Far East. Sir Robert is en route to Hongkong from Singapore. Threat in Pacific. “No part cf the Pacific areas, unless it is prepared to defend itself, is safe from Japanese expansion,” said the former British Ambassador to Japan (Sir Robert Clive) in a speech at Halifax, Nova Scotia. He added that Japan aimed at a protectorate over all nations in her orbit including the Netherlands Indies, Thailand and China. “I don’t believe Japan intends at present to extend her sphere of influence to Australia and New Zealand,” he added.
