Christian Pacfiist Society “A Menace”
[Per Press Association. Copyright.] WELLINGTON, This Day. “Definitely the Christian Pacifist Society is not only a public nuisance, but also a public menace, liable to create disorder and tumult as a result of its persistence in going on with its subversive activities. “I use the word subversive in its legal sense,” said Mr J. H. Luxford. S.M., in the magistrate’s court yesterday, in imposing a sentence of three months’ imprisonment with hard labour on Davis William Silvester, a clerk, aged 28, who was charged with obstructing Superintendent Lopdell in the execution of his duty. On a charge of conducting a meeting prohibited under the provisions of the Public Safety Emergency Regulations, Silvester pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
